Hi', Mike, A little true story of my own.
One day, many years ago, in the early days of my anonymity as the writer of our local newspaper's angling column, I met a new member on our local club water. He was a youngster, he hadn't much idea about what he was doing, and he appeared to have taken root in the river bed, as I had watched from afar as I fished my way up the water, taking the odd trout on dry fly from known 'hot spots' -- I was 'fishing the water'., as there wasn't a 'hatch'.
I showed him my official warrant card, I was an honorary bailiff for the county 'River Board' at the time, and my club warrant. After checking his licence, I discovered that he'd been fishing the same stream for several hours, but had only felt a few bites. When asked how I had fared, I told him I'd been on the water about an hour, had returned a few trout and killed a brace.
I then asked what flies he was using, and was informed that he '-- had no time for those fancy things that fellow in the 'paper talks about, he just makes things complicated. My dad says any fly will do, just ordinary ones.' To which I replied, 'But do you not think that man might be right in what the suggests?' 'No, he's just a xxxxxx know-all.'
I wished him a sincere, 'Tight lines.' Then I had a chuckle to myself. Maybe the lad was right!!

I write this in support of my advice, on another thread, to preserve your anonymity for a while, you get more laughs that way!! Terry C
