just had my mates misses around asking if i could get her a fly tying kit for her husband for Xmas
i know its better to buy what you need for your tying but she wants a kit
any idea,s up to about £50
or suggestions for making one up

Will he use half the stuff in the kits? See some of the lads on here I'm sure one or two will knock up a very good kit in a fly tying box for that price Brian at big reel ,Grommit,Andy at flytastic all good lads.

it would probably help if you gave us an idea of what species your mate normally goes after, so we can advise materials specific to the kinds of fly he is likely to tie.

My advice would be to concentrate on good quality scissors, vice, hackle pliers and whip finish tool. I'm sure I'm not the only tier who's wasted money on materials they hardly ever use.
I've yet to meet a tier who has regretted spending that wee bit more on good quality tools for the job.
