Talking first fish on the fly

hi everyone, just thought i would let you know i caught my first fish today on the fly, though i think it was more luck than skill,
i have never felt so uncorfortable in what i was doing for a long while and even though i managed this little beauty i still feel frustrated as i never felt in controll of what i was doing all morning
i need to go and watch some dvds or somebody actually fishing the fly on a river,if anybody knows any river dvds that will help me please let me know

anyway after about 10 changes of fly and several locations i decided to fish a little weirpool at the bottom of a waterfall that i know holds perch and chubb so i put the fluffiest smallest white fly i had in my box of 15 and started to pretend i knew what i was doing, when all of a sudden wollapp something hit me like i have never been hit before, what a feeling that is
and on a 2.5lb tippet and my first fish that decided it wanted to tailwalk everywhere,i gotta say i reall enjoyed the experience

very nice mate, thats what it is all about, the enjoyment of your first fish by a new method is always excellent, i remember my first rainbow on fly, my heart was pounding and the adrenaline was pumping through the veins, no other feeling like a first fish.

Well done, im sure if will be the first of many

Tightlines

Chris

That looks like a very nice pike. Paul you were extremely lucky to land that fish, especially on 2.5lb tippet. Pike can bite instantly through 20lb mono and would have made short work of your leader. you must have hooked him just in the right place so his teeth couldnt cut you off.

Nice one Fly!! Well done mate; you'll never forget that first one (and that's pretty special for a first one) and, more importantly, you'll never look back as an angler. First of many I hope

Well done indeed - first of many I hope.
As for DVD's in fishing rivers have a look at the Oliver Edwards Essential Skills series - available from Spidersplus. This will cover different techniques and particularly different ways of fishing wet flies. I've recently caught chub on at least 2 of these techniques ("the escalator" and czech nymphing) although I suspect streamers would be better for perch. We already mentioned spidersplus (on the forum under that name) as a source of flies. In the real world his name is Phil Holding and he's great to do business with.
