Hi' Webmonkey, Welcome to the FFF. I'm afraid Cow Green is out for the brown trout close season, as it is wild fish only up there; but it's not so far from Grassholme and Hury, which have both wild browns and stocked rainbows. Hury will no doubt have some coarse fish still, so 'fry-bashing' should be a fair possibility. Cheers Terry C

i remember going to Grassholme years ago with my dad is there any other place's around teesside/north yorks that might be alittle cheaper. the reason i ask is £20 odd is a bit pricey and im just starting fly fishing so somewhere cheap just to get my casting better would be great. i know the season is over right or can you still fish for trout in Reservoirs and lakes?

if you cant tell im new to fishing

Rivers are no-go out of season full stop, for trout.

Lakes can choose but many enforce a close season as well.

To be honest with you, you'd be better off going for grayling on the Tees itself.
