Default what rod licence do you have

ok now i have my gear will be going out soon but just need to ask about rod licence.
as we are in november now there is no way ill be buying a rod licence but will buy a day rod licence when i go out till march but what not sure what to get .
i see there are two rod licence types
none-migratory trout and course
salmon and sea trout

if i was fishing just in reservoirs and fishieries then i guess id get the 1st one but if im fishing in rivers too then obviously there will be migratory trout and some salmon. as long as there is no salmon or trout on the bank that i have caught when a balif came along then wouldnt i be ok with just the none migratory trout course licence ?

views please

What is the close season for migratory fish in the rivers you intend to fish.

I imagine that the season for migratory fish in these rivers will already be over, but it might overlap in the spring.Even if you caught a migratory fish.all you would have to do would be return it,and you would only require a trout licence.

Hi' It's a shame that sea trout enthusiasts have to buy a salmon licence to fish legally for what is a sea-going brown trout. I buy a salmon licence, just in case
I fancy a bit of sea trouting in the Borders, south side, or a go at the summer grilse if there is a decent run on our local rivers. Never fished for salmon this year, but caught one while grayling fishing, proving the point that luck plays a part in fishing. The salmon had to go back BTW as it was out of season. That was luck on the other side!! TC
Years ago, in Cumberland and Westmorland, the brown trout licence covered sea trout, and in our county there was no coarse fish licence.

Not to do with the original question, but has anyone seen the new licenses for next year? they're like a credit card with a perch on them

Thumbs up Brilliant

It's about time,I'm sick of trying to fold my current licence to fit into my wallet.
