Default River spots in Buckinghamshire

I'm moving to Buckinghamshire and wondered if anyone knew of any good river fishing spots. Particularly for trout and grayling.
I'm living in Chalfont St Giles, near Gerrards Cross and anywhere within about a 30minute drive would be great.
New to the area so local pub recomendations wouldnt go a miss either.
Tight lines
Ben

Someone recently posted a link on chalkstreams available in Britain, a good site. It listed a couple in Bucks relatively short sections of the Wye near West Wickham, but it was £1000/season plus £250 joining fee!!
I'm afraid it's going to be a lot of travelling or lots of cash!

River chess by rickmansworth, i dont know what the fishing is like though. It was on accidental angler when he caught a wild brownie.

If your willing to drive a tad further, 47mins away from chalfont st giles is Tewin Fly fishing club (just type it in on google) which has a stretch of the river mimram and brownies and grayling.

In St Albans you can fish the River Ver, 35mins away but is a difficult river to fish, but there are some nice wild browns in there.

hope that helps.

Excellent, thanks guys.
Looks like I'm going to have to drive a little further.

There must be at least a couple of spots closer though. I've heard about this sports ground spot on the Chess. Has anyone given it a go?

I saw a post on here by someone who lived on the chess. Even though it was a difficult spot to fish, were there a couple of nice pools?

How about the rivers feeding the lakes just South East of the M25? Any stories about those?

It depends how much you want to spend. River trout fishing this close to London comes at price.

I fish the Chess about 15 mins from Chalfont St Giles. Its a small river but there are some nice spots and I caught a 22 inch and 21 inch fish from there this year.

We may be looking for new members for next year. There are only 12 or so people I think and I saw someone else fishing only twice in 20 odd visits this year. PM me if you're interested and I'll mention it to the owner. Its not cheap but considerably less than the figure mentioned for the Wye at West Wyecombe.

Whoops, apologies for the mis-spelling of Wycombe - I should know better, I lived there for 2 years!
As per Accidental's suggestion, there's Amwell Magna on the Lea in Ware which is 45 mins from Gerrard's Cross according to Mapblast.
I visited it last weekend on invitation by member Salmo Trutta here.
It is stocked, but there are wild and coarse fish as well, and there's a wild feel about the place too, with lots of regeneration work going on, on the river. It's a lot less manicured than the Wye, and much more reasonable cost wise.
If you're interested, drop him a PM.

Default Colne and Misbourne

How about 10 minutes then?

Not my area; but I was invited to a 2 day golf event at the Buckinghamshire just over 4 years ago.
There were 2 lovely streams in the Park.

I couldn't resist having a few casts from the lawn of Denham Court - also new HQ to the European Ladies Tour.
The Colne, even in July, was quite a swift river - but the ranunculus was unmanaged.

I thought I'd fished the Misbourne too, but it must have been a Colne carrier in front of the mansion.

There's a strict dress code there too. The reason I mention it is that below the lawns and possibly the weirpool it becomes Club water (coarse fishing?) which, I think, is based in Uxbridge and a reasonable £80 per season fee was mentioned.
There are 'Private Fishing' signs on access gates closer to the main road. I suggest a short drive to check the river out and the signs too. I'm sure they show contact details.
If not ask at the Manor - no denims, no trainers, and hide your car if it isn't erm 'appropriate'..
