Default River fishing DVD

I have just watched the "Introduction to River Fly Fishing" DVD made by Paul Gaskell which has been mentioned on the forum once or twice.

This is a cracking piece of work. It doesn't have the production values of an Oliver Edwards video, one or two shakey shots and not many lingering shots of pretty scenery accompanied by soothing music and there is no detailed fly tying advice (and this is not a criticism of the OE productions, they are of course excellent). What there is, though, is a very good demonstration of fishing the dry fly and czech nymph on small streams. Detailed instructions, emphasis on how to detect the take when nymphing, advice on where to find the fish and which fly to use. Details of leader set up, knots etc etc.

There are regular posts from people new to river fishing wanting advice. To be honest, my advice is always "have a day with a good instructor" because it is always money well spent, as an alternative however, I thoroughly recommend this DVD. At £14 inc p&p it is a real bargain.

Best wishes

Peter

Default River flyfishing DVD

I too have recently purchased a copy of Paul's DVD and found it to be very comprehensive in its coverage.

Not the most professional of productions, but this does not detract from the message nor enjoyment. There is a lot of sound advice and guidance on a range of techniques packed into the one DVD.

Very worthwhile for anyone relatively new to river fishing and excellent value for money as well.

I don't know if you're the only one, but I certainly don't find him lacking personality. Quite the opposite, in fact. Even Mrs Yorkio has got a soft spot for him, even if she's not remotely interested in learning the finer points of tying a waggy-tailed sculpin…

I haven't seen that dvd yet but I did buy a dvd off ebay called 'three flies and the river Don' by Paul Sissons, plenty of info on it about short line nymphing ( spotting the takes etc). there is also a section on how to tie the flies he was using. At 5 quid I thought it was a bargain.

Cheers, Dave.

Wow, thanks for the additional praise (don't worry, it won't go to my head!).

Could I ask everyone who enjoys fishing our rivers and lakes to please consider the wonderful benefits of supporting the WTT? This could be through membership - or even just through our raffle tickets (priced at a pound each). Unfortunately, the trout don't know much about recessions and your support is needed more than ever.

Thread here detailing the mouth-watering raffle prizes.
