Default Fly Fishing Dewsbury

Just heard my new job will be based in Dewsbury, I like a cheeky fishing session in a morning or after work, any good fishing in that area? What clubs?

Cheers

Adam

Hi boyzie, the Brighouse Angling Association http://www.brighouseangling.co.uk/index.html have stretches of the Calder from Elland bridge and downstream. This certainly includes good trout and grayling water on the Elland stretches. Dewsbury I'm not so sure about, the bits of the Calder I've looked at there look better for coarse fish.

I live close by and flyfish in Ossett and Horbury on the calder. I regularly pull out very nice brownies...(small but perfectly formed)

In summer its pretty dificult to get to the river as the banks are not managed and you would need a machete to get through!! I went down there last night and i couldn't get anywhere near the water.. The water level was pretty high and the banks had collapsed in places.

Saying that... When the conditions are right, there is some really good fishing to be had.

Hi boyzie, there's decent fly fishing on the Calder around Halifax, season ticket at £25 is a bargin. Its Ryburn & Halifax anglers, tickets available from Jewsons tackle in Halifax or the post office in Sowerby Bridge. There's also the river Colne in Huddersfield centre, its free fishing there and well worth a chuck.
Also good fishing higheer up the Colne, Slaithwaite & District at £40 for a season ticket is also good value, again plenty of fish about. Both Trout and Grayling in both rivers, some big fish in the Calder.
