Default Avington,Dever or

Wifey ,daughter and son want to get me a fishing ticket for my 60th
Looked at Avington,Dever,Rockbourne and Avon Springs as something a tad different from my usual choice.
Am leaning towards either Dever or Rockbourne.
If anyone has fished these venues, your thoughts would be appreciated.
Not looking especially for monster fish, just a reasonable average size and nice surroundings

My eldest son bought me a ticket at Dever for my 60th. and I had a most enjoyable day..four fish, not monsters but all round the 8lb. mark.

However, I've not been back since and I've read very mixed reports about it in recent times..I have to say, none of them good.

Could I suggest you add Lechlade to your list? A nice lake stocked with big, good quality fish. Last time I looked it was round about £50 for a four fish ticket.

All four have clear waters. I am off Avington although in days gome by have loved it. Dever mid week is pretty good. Not fished Rockbourne but Avon Springs on a 50/50 ticket to fish the lakes and fish the Avon (grayling) has got to be the best bet. Again mid week get there early and fish for good rainbows up to 10lb and fish the Avon just along from where Frank Sawyer fished. If there has been no rain the waters will be crystal. Lechlade although with the best averages out of the lot seems to be a bit cloudier. Do not get me started on Avington!

electro fished the river downstream of Avon Springs today, had a number of 6lb+ rainbows despite the fact that the fishery deny that any fish ever escape. We've caught rainbows of exactly the same size and condition up to 3 miles downstream of the fishery, but strangely enough, never upstream...

Two of the fish were marked as if they'd been bbq'ed from the water pushing them against the outfall grills. They were without exception anaemic, fat pigs, I wouldn't choose to fish there ever. Anyone that lets those beasts into the Avon system knowingly doesn't deserve customers, especially ones who you would like to think, care about the state of the river.

River pellets - they just don't seem to work.

No rush,
Thought about one of the grayling days, but think i would need to get some river work in first, unless i could use my centre pin, otherwise i would be totaly lost.
Alas Salisbury is a tad too far for me.Driving around everyday as it is,this poor ol b####r is looking for
the easy life

Bloody hell "60" they will be better off buying you "incontenance pants, a zimmer frame, x10 glasses, thermal underwear, pipe, mittens on elastic and not forgetting you could qualify for meals on wheels Only joking ol bean , your very sprightly for your age.Actually i could do with that lot
Only problem with the venue is most are going to look mangky this time of year,
Avington is a nice place ,well run ,helpfull and freindly with decent size lake/lakes but they really have let themselves down on fish size.would go again at a push.
Avon springs not that big , but fish are hard fighting and in good nick, the owner/ baliff is a miserable sod, toilets were terrible and a lots of noise from the land rover guys, the stream does look inviting though. and not a bad price

Dever springs looks a fair bet, but one thinks it could be rather pack if at a weekend
Chalk springs , well just a fish puddle

Me thinking you really want a big fish day after all it is a special day so why not break the rules for once and go just for the big fish, what about Lechy there should be some kippers in there by now ,with the water temps going down surely they must be stocking with the big kippers

Gaz Whos younger than you
