Default Sunday fishing - time for change?

Firstly apols re the typos above!

Apologies if this has been done before but I was wondering what the general consensus was regarding Sunday game fishing?

I shoot and salmon fish and find it madness that in Scotland in the year 2008 I could get a criminal record for pursuing my sport on "the Sabbath". I don't want to insult anyone's religion but how does such a singularly Presbyterian act sit in a supposedly secular Britain?

To illustrate the lunacy I could be a "Seven Day Adventist" (who hold Saturday as the Sabbath). In light of the fact that the vast majority of the populace are tied to a mon-fri working week, could I use the Human Rights Act to show the current law as discriminating against me religiously as it would exclude me from regularly enjoying my sport (as I would be religiously prohibited from fishing on Saturday and legally on the Sunday)?? I am no expert but have read the act and would have thought there was some mileage in this.

Would this be in the interest of fishing or do most of you guys (particularly the Scottish members) wish things to remain the same? As a matter of what is 'cricket' I would probably choose not to fish for salmon on Sunday anyway...but I would like the legal right to choose for myself.

I would like to fish on a Sunday in Scotland. It seems daft that I can't.

If there is any benefit to the river having a 'day off', then make it a Monday.

It is a stupid law that is so outdated, most people nowadays only have a sunday free for their leisure time so it makes no sense to have such a silly law in the modern world.

The sooner it is abolished the better, but i cannot see it happening anytime soon

I am a slightly religious old hector, but i believe it's absurd that we can't fish on a sunday. As people have said above, it's often one of the only days we CAN fish so to abolish it seems ridiculous. Wouldn't surprise me if it were repealed shortly too. it'd bring more money to Scotland.

On the Nith the poachers would turn up after midnight on a Saturday when the Seatrout fishers had to be off the water, as it would be in to Sun They would then net the pools having the river all too themselves,
They dont honour the Sabath.
