Desert Island angling book?
Well, it's Friday. End of a long week and now looking forward to a day afloat on Rutland tomorrow for some early fry feeders.
Anyway, an old, much-revered boss of mine used to say that good books should be re-read every ten years or so, and, taking his advice, this week I picked from the shelf my well-thumbed copy of Rod & Line by Arthur Ransome, which is now on it's fourth re-reading (sort of gives the game away as to my less than tender age!). I know, there are other great fishing books; I recall being inspired by Brian Clarke's book on stillwater angling and the virtues of the imitative approach, and his other great book with Goddard, The Trout & the Fly. Then there are the many books by Richard Walker, who seemed to rewrite the normal rules of angling, or maybe he just summarised them better than most. But I can't warm or relate to these how-to books in the same way that I can to Rod & Line, which contains so many pearls of wisdom that it would do the author a disservice to single out any particular one. For me, no other writer has encapsulated the where, how and why of fishing in quite the same way.
So, that's my personal favourite, but I was wondering what other forum members would choose for their Desert Island fishing book.
