Thumbs down A Really Bad 'product Review.'

I don't recall ever (other than a passing comment) actually starting a thread, the point of which, was a 'bad product review.' A first (?) for me?

Ordered up a new set of wading boots, Dan Bailey "Yellowstone Guide" to be 'on point.' Advised the 'Dealer' wanted "studded bottoms" on the felts ... 'no problem, they come with studs.'

Cool. WRONG!

The damned things (even if the rest of the boot is obviously well made) come with a bag of 'DIY' 'screws' that you have to put in your self. Worse yet, the things are so light weight that I doubt they will last more than a real trip or two at the best.

What a bust.

I have also Emailed Gorgeflyshop intending to purchase a pair and asked for more details on the Dan Baileys breathables, and they can't even bother to reply.
So I think I'll be looking over here in the UK at least Wychwood make one hell of an effort to satisfy customers and you get what they stipulate in the advert.

Whats wrong, they came with studs. Ok so you had to fit them yourself. hardly rocket science.

Would it not be better to review them after you had actually used them a few times rather than first impressions & then report, rather than second guess what might happen.

This is very unusual, I have had a lot of dealings with Gorge and have found them to be one of the best online retailers in the US in terms of service and fair pricing (many items are shipping free to the UK).
Dis you email Dan or Travis at gorgeflyshop@gorge.net or did you use their online query?

Steve

Ordered some wading boots from Gorgeflyshop US size so went one size larger but still too small. I tried to send them back for a larger pair willing to pay return postage at my own expense, not interested no reply. I gave the boots away and bought some in the UK.

That's service for you.

fredaevans
I trust you made the point of asking for boots with studs already fitted?

Hi Steve I have just sent an Email to their site with request for sizing, shipping costs etc, I have never contacted them before so I know not of Dan or Travis.
Yes the prices do seem reasonable, and royvs swears by them, perhaps I should give them a little longer.
Cheers. Steven.

Wiz,

I'm amazed. I've never not received a reply from them on any email. I bought a Simms 4 piece roller bag (now discontinued) from them, and almost bought the 3-piece one, but Travis advised me against it, suggesting I take the smaller 4-piece, because of airport restrictions. The 3 piece was discontinued a week or so later, and he could have easily let me buy it, but felt duty bound to tell me. The shipping to the Uk he actually went halves on it, me paying $40 out of the $80 - and it's a big, heavy bag. Lines, boots, waders always came in quick time, and back/pre orders were sent without my prompting.
No excuse for not replying though, normally the first bad experience for me with a retailer is the last.

Steve

Could the lack of email be down to an overzealous spam filter ? Its happened to me twice before with retailers I regularly use, if I wasnt checking my spam I would not have caught it.

Yep, sometimes email goes missing. Especially if you get a lot of email, it's easy enough for the spam filter to decide an email is spam when it isn't and when you have a commercial outfit you get so much spam that checking for ones that slipped through the net is difficult.
