Default Book Title Sought

David Thomas' thread has reminded me of an unsatisfied quest for a book I read in the 1960's but the origins and title of which I cannot remember. It featured the development of a young fisherman in Scotland from worming through to Salmon fishing on the fly but included an episode after Char as well. I recall that it was called "Gone Fishing" but this may be incorrect because I can find no reference to a book by that title which matches this description. Two episodes I recall which may help identfication.

1) A ghillie advised the lad to use a muck heap to find worms, and in response to the comment "that's only muck from the byre" was told "maybe, but it grows the "vurra' best wurms"
2) The scolding received for keeping a kelt.

I had the book from the library two or three times in the 1960's and would love to be able to read it again.

If anyone recognises it I'd be very very grateful for infirmation.
Thanks
GD

Don't know the book myself, but a man who most likely will can be found here:

Paul Morgan of Coch-y-Bonddu Books

Hi, Dave,
I certainly agree with that advice. I have been in his shop at Machynlleth, while on one of a number of holidays in Dolgellau. Also, GD could try David Grayling, who lives up here in Cumbria, not far from Mrtrout's home. He owns David Grayling Books, and with a name like that, he has to specialise in fishing books. Www.davidgraylingbooks.co.uk or graylingbook@fshdial.co.uk or David Grayling, Verdun House, Shap, Penrith, Cumbria, CA10 3NG
Hope you find your book GD. Cheers, both

I agree. Paul has helped Mrs Grouse track down several sporting books that she wanted to give me as presents. He's very helpful and has a good network.

I am probably miles out here, but the name Negley Farson keeps popping up in my mind. I can't even remember if I have read his work. TC

I don't think the book you're looking for is Going Fishing by Negley Farson - this was published first in 1942. Also highly recommended.

I will try for a more positive answer soon!

It isn't but I have picked up the Negley Farson and it's a great read. Thanks to everyone else - I'll try the suggested contacts.

Have you tried on Google books? http://books.google.com/books?q=gone...G=Search+Books

It's quite good as you can preview books, search by phrase etc
