Hi Chris,
I studied aquatic flies for years, used a Pentax MX TTL SLR, with bellows, 2X converter, Tamron 90mm macro etc, but 35mm shots would not compete with those shown here. Your dad's shots are very good. I have recently bought a Pentax K200D, because I had a lot of Pentax kit, but I may have made the wrong choice. What does your dad use?
Cheers, TC

Default macro's gallore!

pretty excited too as I have broken the bank this week end and splashed out on the DSLR that I had been drooping about for some time. Got two lenses including a canon 100mm macro.

the camera will be used for flies for the website but also for all matter of bugs encoutered by the river bank and lakeside. There is so much to see for anglers who take a keen interest in water habitats in general.

so much more than just fishing!

I'm about to take the plunge and upgrade to full frame from my EOS 40D to the new EOS 5D MK2, and that means new glass including the 100mm macro, I'd be really interested to hear your views on it for photographing flies.

funny.... it is a EOS 40D that I bought!

the lens is actually on order and I should get it this week. My trials this week end were with a 18-200mm zoom. the macro lens has excellent reviews, hence my choice. Hopefully I will be able to get the best out of it. I am a newby with a SLRs

will let you know

Default To Darren Lewis

My first attemps with the canon 100 mm macro are ok but remain a bit trial and error. You can have a look here for some pictures.

I just have not had time to understand how to best use my camera. Not sure I am going to improve much until I have a real go with creative modes. However I have noticed that - as per reviews- it make some lovely portraits.

BTW Am I mistaken of you no longer work for Sportfish?

I wish to add some constructive criticism if I may?

While the lighting for the photo's is pretty good, it lack depth of field. This can be seen as the focus is not great on the fly as a whole. I am no expert by far but I thought this may help the photographs in the future.
