Default Please recommend a waterproof jacket.

Can anyone recommend a decent waterproof jacket as I found out yesterday that my 'kagool' was not up to the job!

Obviously, it needs to be flexible for fly fishing and very waterproof - anyone able to recommend a jacket?

ps. I would like to budget between £75 - £125 ideally.

Thanks,

Craig Hodgson

I use a Greys GTX wading jacket and think it is pretty good value.

Highly waterproof, good hood, non-drip lycra inner cuffs and nice touches like in built zingers etc.

Sure there are fancier jackets out there but within you price range would be hard to beat.

if you want to stay dry for a few seasons buy goretex, most of the other materials will let you down except Patagonia.

If you buy simms, north face, lowe alpine or any of the other reputable brands their goretex jackets should last you for years. Buy anything else and you'll be buying again in the not to distant future...

Agree but the following should defintely be added to the above list (Mountain Equipment, Mountain Hardware, Rab, Arcterix etc...all top notch techncial jacket brands). Also eVent is generally regarded as a more technologically advanced than Goretex....as waterproof but a lot more breathable.

I have the Mountain Equipment Kongur and it was rated the most waterproof breathable jacket ever tested by Trail magazine. Not cheap but a great piece of kit.

Go the extra mile pricewise if you can;after decades of buying Barbours (ie the original waxed cotton) and wearing them out every 4 or 5 years I bought a Musto goretex jacket in 1996 which is as good as new.I have fished ,shot ,watched rallies and walked in it, slept on it, blundered through heavy woodland etc - it has no tears or rips, is still 100% waterproof and wind proof and you can even wash it.Best £295 I ever spent...

Get away wi' ye.

There is nothing quite like the look on SWMBO's face when a freshly re-proofed Barbour emerges from the oven - ready to stick to whatever it next touches.

I've just got a Westwinds ventile jacket, thinking about stocking them. It had it's first day out at the Cumbria meet which was easily the windiest, wettest day I can remember for a long time and it kept me warm and dry.
Ventile is a fancy type of cotton fabric.

Hi Craig

Ask TonyMontanaNymph about his goretex jacket.

Found out my Barbour T50 Dryfly Endurance Jacket was more showerproof than waterproof on Sunday.
