Default I Nicer Group of People You Couldn't Wish To Meet - Cumbria

Some forum members met today in Cumbria. The nicest group of people you could ever expect to meet. Terry Cousin - a wealth of knowledge and a really humble guy. Mr Trout the classic fly fishing gentleman, Jeff (a bugggger) for catching more than everyone else put together, Cowie for organising it and not dominating the catch league table (despite practice visits). Dave for trusting Jeff that we were worth meeting and Lakeland Bush Craft for giving a Ray Mears feel to the event. Last but definitely not least Snigs for donating his ticket.

Those that couldn't make it - must try next time, you really missed out.

At least ten times I thought I had violent takes only to find it was gusts of wind on the back of my rod.

Hope I didn't miss anyone.

You are far too kind, Stew, and if I had fished instead of paddling about in the pouring rain and howling wind, pestering people and distracting them, all the hardy lads concerned would have probably done better in the appalling weather.
The cheerful and resigned manner in which all conducted themselves created an ambience on the day which I shall remember. More grins and laughs than scowls and moans, blow the weather, you all caught fish.
Cheers, TC

What kind words SAB, I'll have you know Its a long time since I had such an enjoyable days fishing. ( Mr Cousin excluded) A nicer bunch of chaps you couldn't find.
The weather was to say the least disgusting, and I had to remind myself that I wasn't on the north sea Trawler fishing at times. The only dry part on me when I got home was my feet, and anyone that pulled out of todays event was a wise man, but they also missed a wonderful day, great sportsmen, who were prepared to go out in those conditions are either daft or love to fish.
Anyway it was an honour to meet you all and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I have just eaten a large supper washed down by the best part of a good bottle of red, so it may be the drink talking, but I would do it all again tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone for such a grand day.
Tight lines, ( which we all had at one time or another today) Steven.

Absoloutly MF, strange how you put a face to someone on the forum and when you meet them in the flesh they are totally different to how you imagined them. All real gentlemen I met today and hope to meet again.

No need to rub it in IN my hat is still not dried out yet, and I am now in persuit of a decent waterproof fishing jacket.
My 25 year old Barbour Beaufort let me down badly yesterday, mind I didn't expect weather quite that bad.

Thumbs up

Sorry chaps, only just noticed this posting - I've put some comments under the original "events" thread, plus a link to some photos Dave took which he's posted on the forum he helps to run.

Just to echo the above comments, I would never have believed I could have fished in such lousy conditions and yet still have had such a good time - all down to the company. So big thanks to those who turned out and for Ian for arranging it

As an indication of just how heavy the rain was, rammed into you by gale force winds non stop, my coat I have had for years (a Helly Hansen) has never leaked before, but yesterday even it couldn't cope and I was pretty well soaked underneath. By contrast, my £11.99 Dickies workwear breathable leggings from Wickes DIY store kept my legs bone dry!

Hi, Jeff, and All,
Today, in Penrith, the sun is splitting the pavements, nice light wind. The combination is drying out my big, long Barbour breathable that Mrtrout admired. He aint so sure about it now though!! Mind you, the hood kept my brand new waterproof, breathable trilby dry. If that leaks when exposed to heavy rain, I think I shall cry!
Cheers, All,-- thinking about Sniggs suggestion?
TC
