Its doesn't look too bad and its only a fiver. I fish the water directly below it and it has a good head of wild browns and grayling and there's often some big rainbows - escapees from Avon Springs just above. It however isn't the best water on the Avon, It's not tiny at this point, but not huge. This stretch runs through water meadow and is pretty open, therefore not really jungle fishing. The water has quite a few deep slow holes on the bends and is probably not ideal for stalking.I can't really remember seeing anyone fishing it properly, just kids in the summer. It runs directly at the back of an estate, so at weekends and in the holidays you can draw a bit of attention.
As to other options. Avon Springs in Durrington do day tickets for grayling, but they're quite expensive (around £30 from memory). The waters quite nice, but there isn't that much of it. I have however had a lot of grayling out of there at this time of the year, including some good sized ones. Lots of stocked trout as well.
Further upstream (only 10 minutes) at Upavon , you can fish here for grayling for £25
http://www.chalkstream-flyfishing.co...tream_home.htm the river here is smaller and quite jungly. It is however pretty technical fishing.
SDAC have another water by Amesbury I think but I’ve not fished it. Just below Salisbury is the London Anglings Britford fishery. This has 5 miles odd of carrier chalksteam and the main river, within site of Salisbury This is a mixed fishery with plenty of chub as well but I’ve had some good grayling from there as well. Also big pike about if that turns you on.
Finally, you can fish the Wylye at Steeple Langford for £20 http://www.wiltshirewildlife.org/Default.asp?Editor=Attachment&TextElementID={CDCDB2BC-F239-4EDF-855E-85A56BFD1C94}
This a lovely bit of river that the Wild Trout Trust worked on recently. It’s pretty small but has a great head of grayling. From reading your posts about the type of fishing you’ve been enjoying on the Itchen I think this may be the one for you.
Hope that helps
