Don't know about your local rivers but you don't need big flies for salmon, unless the water is very high.

The likes of wee shrimp flies (cascades and ally's) can be easily cast with a reservoir rod. I was fishing them last week with a sturdy 6wt.

In fairness its AFTM is 6 but it is poss nearer a 7 and has a fighting handle.

My mate used one for our first salmon season we fished together. When I upgraded my double hander I gave him my old rod. Still prefers a single handed rod and has had a few salmon to it and none lost. In fairness nothing large.

I find the likes of a 7lb salmon on a 15ft double handed rod can be a bit of a non-event.

The rivers around these parts don't warrant anything other than a 10 footer.

llangollen association waters were recomended to me recently ,bit off a schlep

for a northlondon lad for the day ,season in Wales fast running out ,would look to Annan and Nith for into the winter months fishing .
Locally find some grayling fishing ,that runs through all the winter months and your trout tackle will be suitable !
