Default NZ style-altering the depth of the nypmh?

Just read the thread 'Upstream/Downstream' and wondered if any one had a quick way of altering the depth at which the nymph fishes when using a top 'indicator' fly like a Klink/ balloon cadis.

Is there a knot that lets one slide the top dropper [dry fly] up and down the leader - I've tended to construct a leader with say 3 droppers and move the dry fly between the droppers to achieve different depths on the point nymph [the indicator fly seems to catch more if its on a dropper rather than have the nypmh coming off the bend of the indicator as in the 'original' NZ set-up]

Any views and opinions ?
cheers
nick

I change the weight not the legnth.
Its running water, think about it. If your leader is less weighted its not going to go as far dawn.

Top advice Buzz.

Nicsis - it sounds a bit anal but it's worth spending a bit of time casting close to you and watching the behaviour of different weights of nymphs in different flows of water. What you don't want is for your nymph to be towed behind like a submerged life raft You are trying to achieve a nice drag free drift so don't be afraid to put a leader of 3ft+ below the dry.

BTW - corrected your spellings whilst I was at it, you can thank me later

Does that mean i am not legitimately married() and my Kids are Man Utd supporters?

More importantly can i claim my tax back?

Yes, there is a knot which allows you to vary the depth at which a suspended nymph or buzzer fishes below an indicator fly. It is the uni-knot.
Use this knot to tie the dropper to the main leader, and carefully draw it up almost tight -- and I stress almost.
At this stage there will enough friction between the knot and the leader to hold the dropper in position while casting, but the dropper can still be slid up and down the leader as required.
If a fish takes the indicator fly, then the dropper will simply slip down the leader until it reaches the nymph, at which point it will go no further and the fish can be played our normally.
The secret to this system is how tightly you draw up the knot. Too tight, and it will not move. Too slack, and it will not hold. Just right, and you have a variable-depth indicator.
Cheers,
Angus

I use a sliding stop knot.
