Default Is there no saving me now?

I have crossed over to the dark side, I am now starting my first steps into the world of fly fishing

I had about 3 hours of tuition, learnt the overhead cast and the roll cast, and the roll cast into the overhead cast. I struggled like mad as was to be expected but managed to get a cast somewhat resembling an overhead cast towards the end of it. Much practise is needed!!

I also got about 10-15 minutes of fishing on the River Anton on an absolutely gorgeous beat. The weather was gorgeous but too bright with the sun behind us which made fishing very very difficult. Needless to say I didn't even get a touch but damnit I'm hooked (pun intended).

No saving you at all now. You're done for!

Well done on starting with some proper lessons.
At least you won't be in the same situation as myself (and I'm sure a lot of other fishermen) of getting lessons to un-learn bad habits.

(Tip - If you enjoy the occasional libation, make sure your credit card is well hidden before going anywhere near a computer. I know from bitter experience...)

I'm the same as you D, recent convert and started with a half days tutition then afternoon of fishing. Was out this morning in the fog practicing the over head cast and shooting line and heading to Farmoor next weekend.

Good luck and heed the above advice about going online with your wallet in the same room.

Phil

Thanks guys. I've managed to pick up a rod, reel and line but still need all the other bits. So I will be going online soon with my card. Don't worry I have learnt my lesson regarding drinking and ordering stuff online! I figure I need at least a vest, flies, landing net and at some point, waders etc. Still trying to work the rest out.

I'm guessing you have drowned your last worm....you will now spend your children's inheritance on vast collections of flies you never actually use

welcome to the world of a bottomless pit..!!

well done and welcome.

you couldn't have picked a better hobby to take up, but after some time it will becomes more than a hobby!

just a couple of words of advice, when buying stuff don't go for the cheapest stuff possible. you will only end up spending more money in the long run. there are plenty of people on this site that would be only too glad to give you correct advice. seek it.

your doing it right by getting lessons but only practice one to two hours a day, max. after that time the brain starts getting tired and you start picking up faults.

best of luck and tight lines

Seems like quite a few are now well and truely snagged. I know I am although I shall do my best in resisting the temptation to spend.
