I use them on stillwater virtually right through the whole season mate.Trout very often prefer a fly under the film rather than a high floating one. When prospecting with dries my usual m.o is to offer the fish a choice of two different profiles, e.g a klink for hanging under and say a bits or a shippy to lie flat on top.The fish will let you know what they prefer on the day.
Klinks are particularly good at imitating emerging buzzers .

Klinkhamers, shuttlecocks, Deerhair emergers, Dirty dusters, dirty pollies, suspender buzzers, they're all pretty much variants of the same idea ; a curved, insecty - looking body suspended from the surface film.
And, boy, don't the trout go for that!
The body of the fly is ,I think, what the fish are going for, the rest of the dressing being primarily for the benefit of the angler.(visibility and flotation)
This style of fly is the mainstay of my fishing.

Only just started using them on my local still-water. In three short sessions I've already taken 8 fish on a size 14 orange Klinkhammer, whilst those around me have struggled they've quickly become a firm favourite in my fly-box.

I use klinkhammers regularly on still waters and i catch droves of fish with them. Usually use black or green ones and fish them on a very slow retrieve.

My mate now uses them for competition stillwater fishing and is having lots of success with them
