Default Salisbury and District Angling Club

Is anyone a member or has been a member of the above club? Just after some views on what they are like. It was suggested to me as a good starting place for my adventures into fly fishing. They seem to have a few beats on the River Avon and the River Nadder which offers a beginner like myself a reasonably cheap way into the sport. It also offers some premium fishing beats, however there is a waiting list.

Some great fishing to be had.

Even the Coarse waters are good on the fly from what i have heard.

Ive been a member for 10 years and it's a fantastic club. It has small wild stretches on the Nadder, Ebble and Bourne, and stocked waters on the Avon and Wylye. Plenty to choose from and a real bargain at around £160 per year. It has a lot of members but it's amazing how often you go and see very few people. It can get crowded at mayfly time but never rediculous. There are stillwaters as well and lots of coarse fishing waters. I believe the waiting list is long, but worth putting your name down for when a spot becomes available. You could ask whether you could join as a coarse member now which would still give you access to some non-premium trout beats on the Avon (they're underfished and hold some large trout and grayling), and then upgrade to the premium waters when a slot becomes free. I'm not sure whether there's a waiting list for coarse membership. www.salisburydistrictac.co.uk

It is excellent value for money but expect to wait about 4 years for premium membership, with the pick of the game fishing wild and stocked. Coarse membership gets you immediate access to a number of 'mixed' fisheries including some avon and nadder beats where trout and grayling can be caught alongside chubb pike perch etc., by fly or coarse means (also salmon and sea trout in season). But the mixed fisheries are not stocked trout fisheries, which means they are not easy trout fishing. IMHO the coarse membership is worth it for a game angler if you are reasonably local, especially if you are prepared to mix it up in terms of species. Some can also be fished by day ticket if you want to try before committing.

Thanks guys. I think I'll look a bit further into it as most of their waters are quite close to me.

Depends how close really?? If you live within 14 miles of salisbury city centre then i'm pretty sure you are allowed to skip the premium waiting list.
cheers
Al.

Malcolm on these forums is, I believe, a very active member of SADAC. Try PMing him. I joined a couple of years ago and only had to wait 2 seasons.

Waiting list for premium members currently sits at around 7 years... If you moved to within the 14 mile radius you'd go to the top of the list, it is after all set up to provide fishing to the people of the salisbury district, who without the club would be priced out by the likes of the piscatorials, wilton club and the 300 quid dayticket providers.

My tip would be join as a coarse member. For your 50 (ish) notes you'll be able to fish some amazing mixed waters, I've seen wild trout to 5lb come out on a fly around the watermeadows - well worth getting to know. Not to mention the pike, perch, chubb, grayling that are there in abundance.

Thanks Malcolm, not sure the missus would be up for a move just so I can get the premium membership quicker. I have decided I will join up as a coarse member, just need to see whether the charges run from season to season or from date of joining (currently a member of the RDAA, AAC and PAC. Can't really justify joining yet another club for part of the season!!) Might have to make do with day tickets for grayling on the Test/Anton for now.
