Is there ever a good moment ...?
Now the dust has settled after “fishing on TV again” (Or has it? There’s one more appointment with Extreme left ... ) I did promise to keep the forum posted on the progress of my self-made fishing film.
The history ... post The Accidental Angler I took a camera and a pal who could use it on an island-hopping quest around the Caribbean hoping to catch my own fishing goal – a double-figure bonefish.
The film is as much about the place as the quest for a fish and while I realise bonefish might seem a far-off species to many, I hope the obsession that has me chasing after a whopper will be familiar to anyone who’s cast a rod.
Well I have finally finished the film (it’s a lot of work on your own!) a few months ago and the DVDs will be with me by the end of next week.
I’m selling them for £14.95 incl post via my website:

The film has been reviewed and there is a trailer on the fishandfly site:

(Warning – you won’t see any fish held gasping out of the water, gaffed, or hurled onto a boat.)
For anyone interested in what I might be doing with the BBC – I’m touching wood as I type this – there may well be a one off-film by some time next year. Probably off to make it in a week or two. I’m waiting for fat ladies to sing because it is very tough to get a commission on mainstream TV and anything can spike your progress.
But, you know cameras are getting smaller, you can edit on your laptop, and do small runs of DVDs for not too much outlay ... so maybe the scene is changing. Maybe we need to grasp the chance to do it for ourselves.
We need a fishing film festival here in the UK and we need to make films to fill it. If the yanks can do it ... surely we can?
