Default Backing for 4wt Reel

Some advice please.....
How much backing should I put on my 4-5wt reel when using a 4 weight forward floating line?
I am planning on a short trip down the River Dearne tomorrow using my new "light river" gear......

I'm not sure how much you should but on but the best way to find out is to load the fly line onto the bottom of the spool and then put the backing on top of the fly line, this should give you an idea.

I have heard of this before BUT is there a chance of line twist when I then unreel and reload?

The info in or on the box the reel came in should say how much backing.

Have a look here for spooling a reel with line and backing...

With my 4# reel I put 25 metres of 30lb dacron for backing, fits just fine.

Cheers, Dave.
