Default Sage Advice

While wiggling my reel from the rod yesterday I cracked the reel seat, shown in the picture below. I suspect the metal is faulty as I've changed/fixed millions of reels and never resulted in this and I definitely wasn't being heavy handed. The problem is I bought the reel in the USA and wondered if I could get it sorted in the UK. Is there a dealership who can help or will I have to deal with the States to resolve the issue.

Any advice please

Mick

Hi
That looks to me like an easily replaceable part, why not e-mail Sage the picture, hopefully they could send you just that part, it would avoid sending the reel back to the states and possible import tax/duty when it gets returned.
Cheers
Richard

This is the guy that deals with the rods, might be worth contacting him.

That line is about to be turned around at the end of trout season, I will use the other end for next season . I knew you lot couldn't resist commenting on the line so thanks for not letting me down and giving me a giggle.

Thanks for the useful info so far

Mick

I think the 'wiggling' rather than sliding may have had something to do with it mate. It's die cast after all, not exactly the strongest or most flexible stuff on the planet. That's budget reels for you
Looks like the break is right at the end though, surely it will still fit/work? Personally, I couldn't be arsed with the palava of repair/replacement - I'd just curse my own carelesness and sand it down a bit Faulty metal indeed

How come the rod didn't break first after said wiggling? Most cheese won't break on an initial wiggle unless cut into a very long sliver. Reel's a wrong 'un - even our lass couldn't chow a lump off like that.

Default Job Done!

I'm in my 40's and been fishing since I was 5 and never broken a reel in this way until now. I've had some well and truly jammed reel seats in my time but managed to free all of them, and with some wellie I might add. This reel wasn't given any wellie, but broke off easily - maybe it was dropped in manufacture or faulty metal, who knows?

Good News

After sending an email to Sage in USA I received and fitted the new part this morning with no questions asked - Good old Sage . I should mention that the reel is fantastic to use, especially after burying my Streamlite Junk.

Thanks to all for input

Mick
