Default Suspended buzzers

Just a quick question, the standard suspended buzzer has the fly just below the surface film, has anyone tried a method whereby the floatation device (bead or foam) is attached to the hook by a lenght of mono suspending the buzzer at various depths?

We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Default Alan Bithell - Parasols

I purchased some of this type of fly from Spiders Plus, they were tied by Alan Bithell. Yo can see pictures of them here:

Alan Bithell Parasol Flies

I've not actually tried them yet, so I cannot comment on their effectiveness.

On still water would a single buzzer fished shallow below an indicator not do the same job? Or perhaps a small buzzer NZ style below a suspender pattern.

On rivers, I can see an advantage where a "Single Fly" rule applies otherwise you might just as well suspend a small nymph under a dry.

I've tried this once using a small piece of orange ethafoam with the buzzer suspended about 3 inches below. The daft fish were hitting the ethafoam but none took the buzzer. Haven't tried it since but I'm sure it would work given the right circumstances.

Thanks for the replies all, the parasol style does sound familiar now. Fossilfish, I suppose a suspender would do the same thing or the New Zealand style set up. Just interested to see if anyone had tried it.
