Default Fishing Species in Great Britain

I was wondering how many species are caught on fly - bait in britain ? And what there names are also

And also how many species of Trout do you have over there ? Ive been looking on the forums and seen many strange ones ive never seen like Blue Trout ?

Hi there,

a blue trout is just a rainbow that has been selectively bred IIRC.

Blues and Rainbows are not native to the UK.

Off the top of my head here is what can be caught on the fly in the UK:

Brown Trout
Sea Trout (no difference genetically between these and brown trout)
Salmon
Grayling
Arctic Char

Of course there are introduced species like Rainbows, Blues, Tigers and Brook Trout but as I mentioned earlier these are not native to UK waters.

A few of us idiots fish for carp on the fly too. Trust me, a 17lb goes like Billyo on a six weight

Who was it who recently claimed a 1lb flounder.. somewhere in Essex.

Unbelievable - Flounder at Chigborough!

Bass and Mullet are often targeted.

Plenty of saltwater species will take a fly:

Bass
Mullet
Mackerel
Garfish
Scad
Pollock
Coalfish
Cod
Whiting
Flounder
Black Bream
Gilthead Bream
Wrasse
Shad
Smelt
