Default ‘Good home’ wanted for tons of old UK game fishing magazines - swap or barter?

My loft is groaning under the weight of a huge collection of UK’s game fishing magazines. I’ve almost every Trout Fisherman from launch in 1978 to 2004, almost every Fly Fishing & Fly Tying magazine, and many Trout & Salmon’s from 1974 until 2004, as well as a few titles that ran a few issues but didn’t survive (including the ahead-of-its-time International Fly Fisher).

I suspect the ‘collection’ has no real re-sale value, and would cost a fortune to dispatch, but I’ve been attached to them because they represent a written history of modern game angling in the UK, and have informed my development as a game fisher. I’m minded to keep the very first few issues of some of the titles. If there was a national fishing museum I’d donate them. But wherever they end up, I want them to go to a good home where they’ll be appreciated, and I want whoever represents that ‘good home’ come and pick them up. It would be better still if the ‘good home’ wanted to barter something for them – not necessarily fishing stuff - that, like the magazines, is/are surplus to the owner’s requirements.

Is there anyone out there with anything useful to swap, willing to collect the bulk of the magazines from North Lancashire?

I know the feeling, i had the same Early mags, decided to bin them which was sad,
They were full of patterns we don't use anymore,
Baby dolls, and Dog knobblers, Matukas, and ace of spades,
I will probably get replies from Forum members out there who use these Flees, and are successful with them, but i prefer the more modern patterns, i am not talking about traditional Flees more Lure type.

Great idea, David...

I don't know exactly where it stands now, but the last I heard was that Neil Freeman, head honcho of Angling Auctions, was trying to pull a deal together with the National Trust for just such a national angling museum.

Suggest you drop him a line via www.angling-auctions.co.uk and see where he is with it - and if he's interested? Failing that, for posterity, have you thought about the British Library at Colindale?

Thanks Theo. Have spoken with NF, but I fear the time I'll be hanging onto them may be longer than I'm prepared to wait. Good suggestion, though.

Do you have the Trout and Salmon issue that listed Dick Walker's recipe for Permafloat? I would love to get that recipe and make my own.

Richard, I have Trout and Salmon from July 1959 until 1994, bar a dozen or so. Also a lot of Fly Fishing and Fly Tying. If you can give me a date for the mag., I will certainly have a quick 'shufti'.
Cheers,
TC

The best I can do is that it was between 1969 and 1975

Sorry...
