Default Lower Aberuthven - River Earn

Is anyone familiar with this beat? Looking for a day out next week and fancy a change.

Would be after trout, or grayling if it's a little late in the season. Never fished the Earn before - any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Stewart.

Stewart,It can sometimes be hard to fish for Trout and Grayling when the Salmon season is in full swing.but the great thing is that there is a good winter season on the Earn for Grayling after the Salmon season is over.

Thanks for the heads up Jim. The day ticket seems to cover salmon as well, so I could always have a bash with the #7 if there are others around.

Cheers,
Stewart.

I can't give you a recommendation on the lower aberuthven beat but I can tell you that the beat at Dunning is a waste of time. I fished there at the beginning of the season and to say the beat is owned by Dunning AC I couldn't even get near the water because of the weeds, bracken and trees that had been left to overgrow. Fishing was poor too but I have heard it picks up late in the season.

Default Grayling

As Gus says, I doubt whether the £5 ticket will allow you to fish for salmon. However, I can recommend the beat for grayling, having spent many winter days there. The pool just below where the Ruthven burn enters usually holds grayling, from November on, particularly when the river is running at a medium height. If the river is running very low, try the fast water a couple of hundred yards downstream. I always liked a couple of dry days before a grayling day.

Hi Gus,

The price on Fish Tay is £20 for all 4 species for the week I'm looking at going. Couldn't see a £5 option, but I wouldn't mind paying the extra to keep my options open.

Thanks for the Lady info John. I reckon it's nearly time to dust off the bug box.

Cheers,
Stewart.

Take the £20 option.

The Earn is in fine fettle just now, good water, so I'd keep your options open
