Default expensive tackle, cheap flys

Reading through many threads it baffles me how we spend hundreds of pounds on sage, loomis, etc rods and other top class expensive tackle and then read how you can buy flys at 25p each and attach it to expensive tackle.

Why are we willing to spend hundreds on tackle and prepared to buy flys at 25p? How they are made for that even baffles me.

Me I wouldnt touch a fly at that price myself as Id rather have a fly that lasts, still each to their own.

On the other hand I couldnt justify paying a £1 for a fly or even a buzzer as some do.

I agree morayflyfisher i fished for years relying on mates and purchases for my flys the latter not usually lasting more than 2 or 3 outings . It is just in the last year i have started tying my own and to be frank i should have did it years ago i tie up some howlers but olso some crackers i guess most novices go through that to start with . But i must admit you see flys for sale always proffesionally tied of course ( TOSSERS) and they want to fleece you for £4 for 3 , unless they were ribbed with gold i will just plod along with my own , if they fall to peices it will not matter only cost me pennys..

Great post Professional tiers are TOSSERS are they? What... "TOSSERS" as people, or for trying to make an income out of their skill and expertise?

Couldn’t agree more except that I will pay quite a lot for my river flies.

I buy from three members of this forum, all of whom are expensive relative to shop bought, but the flies:

1.) Catch fish

&

2.) Will last until you lose them to the Rock Fish or the Tree God.

As a flytyer for 40 years, i agree its nice to catch on your own tied flees,
But sometime it is cost effective to order, if you only want a few of a certain pattern
Rather than buy materials, which can be costly.

Hit a nerve there A bit of skill and expertise makes you a professional then , you have a high opinion of yourself but then again.. Surprise , Surprise you took the bait..

Personally, I wouldn't buy a fly from anyone who didn't know the plural of fly is flies.
