Rooting through an old cupboard I came across these old pics from back in the 70s Thought it would be a good idea for a thread just to show the new boys how it was way back. They were stuck on the back of a piece of cardboard. All from the 70s. Maybe some of you elder board statesmen have something similar. Just a few to start with a wee comment where appropriate.

Picture 1
A 2lb Trout from a wee lochan near Scourie that produced fish nearer 6oz than the one I caught that day.
Wet Fly: size 12 Invicta

Picture 2
A 5lb Loch Leven Trout, now that is what you call a fish & never seen a pellet.

Picture 3
6LB Brown Balgray Dam
Never been stocked a truly wild fish taken on a dry Cinnamon Sedge size 16

Picture 4
Me in my competition period before I saw the light
2nd in an Inter City Comp on Loch Leven. Hard day, just two takes & the two nice fish both on a size18 wee double Silver Butcher

Getting nostalgic in my elder years & would you believe I was in Army during this time, even the long hair & beard ones. God I was a snappy dresser & for the girls that are watching my phone number is 612---- Well maybe your older sisters

Hi, 'High',
You're a brave, braw lad, putting up your old pictures. Very nice to see the pleasure that other anglers derive from fishing, and some bonny trout to boot.
Scourie reference reminds me of my best brace from NW Sutherland, at 2lb 2oz and 2lb 4oz, from a little private loch not far from Rhiconich. That was in 1991. No spawning burn, so the fish were all introduced by hand. The following year, I caught 2 little fish from a loch nearby and released them in The Peaty Loch, as a thankyou. Nice to have the memory stirred. Thanks for that.
Nearly forgot, I used to have a beard myself, when I rode a 1952 Triumph Thunderbird 500 twin. Wish I had it now!!
Cheers and tight lines,
TC
PS Average size of Peaty Loch trout was 2lb plus, there were few to compete for the available food.

Hi, 'goatie',
Or should that be goatee, since your post is about beards? I meant I wish I still had the bike, but you knew that.
Those trout are crackers, I envy you, 'High' in the nicest possible way. I've fished fly for trout off and on since 1953, as a young airman, stationed in County Tyrone, but never managed to top 3 and 3/4lb. The daft thing is, I lost the two biggest I ever hooked while dibbling a dropper fly for salmon in fast, narrow streams on the Eden, on a short line. Never had salmon while dibbling, although I have risen a couple on dry fly. Still, that's fishing for you, it's what helps make it so fascinating.
Cheers All.
