Default Newby says Hi and ask's advice

Hi to all and can i say what a great resource.

I have a question funnily enough!! I am off to the lake district this weekend with my wife and fancy a bit of fly fishing. I am staying at a hotel near Sawrey and wish to get a boat for the day (this coming Saturday), take a picnic and do the romantic thing since it's our anniversary, well you got to keep them happy hey.

After a bite to eat and a small glass of vino for my better half, often leads to the eyelids getting heavy so I thought, whilst she does that I can cast a fly!!! Two birds with one stone?

Ok so now for the questions,

I have looked to Low Wood Watersports Centre for a boat and have had no reply despite calls, messages and an email. Anyone know where I can book a boat?
Also, I have checked out another thread on this site which states fishing is not brilliant at present, I am not too bothered about catching a boat load but a couple would be nice, how can I do this, what fly etc. I read that they are deep at this time of year?
More importantly, what licence do I need other than a rod licence, where do I buy a ticket for the lake. I presume to be fishing Windermere unless anyone can guide me elsewhere.
Thanks for any help over the next couple of days

Hi - Welcome to the forum.

Windermere fishing is pretty poor if you want to catch - but has lots of boats if you want to major on the first part of your mission.

Coniston - you can hire rowing boats and electric launches- Not far from where you are staying.

Ullswater - fishing has kind of died off now - boats are available.

No additional licence required for the above three.

If you want a fishery with boats try Esthwaite. http://www.hawksheadtrout.com

Esthwaite is not far from where you are heading.

Derwentwater has boats too.

Esthwaite is the only one that you will have to pay for the fishing.

Also look at http://www.lakedistrictfishing.net

Another useful resource for the weather is http://www.lake-district.gov.uk/weat...home/index.php

If you store the number in your mobile - you can dial up to hear it read out - It's local and updated twice a day.

Best Regards

SAB

Default High Newton

Fished High Newton on Sunday - tickets can be bought on line from lakedistrictfishing.net if you have a paypal account as they can for most WADAA waters. Fish were coming to small imitative dark flies - eg size 14 & 16 shuttlecock buzzers. Not the closest to you but the fish were coming.

Indeed not - sorry, didn't mean to mislead but I was addressing the issue of how places are fishing and ticket availability The water is minutes walk from the car park which is minutes from the A590 so if there is any flexibility.............

Can't see anywhere in Grey Dusters' post that he mentions boats

Ickypimp mentions them on Esthwaite, so maybe you are getting mixed up?

High Newton is an excellent fishery!

Fireblade999 - welcome to the forum!

I'm sure you'll have a good weekend in the lakes!

Moustique

Fireblade was looking for somewhere that he could hire a boat for a day to take his good lady out and also to fish. Grey Duster was talking about High Newton - so I thought it was worth pointing out that I didn't think boat were available there.

Perhaps it is you who is getting "mixed up"

Let me add my welcome to Moustique's and wish you a great w/e - afloat or ashore. Sorry I can't join you as I have a (non fishing) trip to the West Country having strained the Domestic Authority's (to quote from the amusing tailpiece on FF&FT) patience with 2 days at the w/e !
