Default What's The Chance?

Hi Guys

As a relative beginner, I'm still after my first Salmon or Sea Trout

I know a little spot where tonight at about 9:30pm the tide will be high (albeit not very high). The spot is the first bridge on an estuary. In my estimation it is probably near where tidal (salt) water meets fresh water from the river system.

I suspect this is the main highway into the river (i.e. not pools, just deep water).

If I go down tonight and cast a salmon fly - what is the chance of me catching salmon?

If I cast a sea trout fly, what is the chance of catching a sea trout?

What is the chance of me getting into trouble for fishing there?

On the estuary side of the bridge is salt marsh.

Location is in England.

Any pointers much appreciated.

SAB

Do you have a Migratory Fish rod licence. You have a better chance of a Sea Trout than a Salmon. IMHO.
Do you enjoy fishing having to constantly look over your shoulder.

Hi Jim

Yes I have a migratory licence.

I was thinking sea trout more than salmon because of the time of day? also I was thinking that the estuary side of the bridge was OK?

Would the fish be feeding or just swimming through?

I would think the Sea Trout would be both travelling and some feeding.

A big win to the sea trout.

I kept hearing lots of thrashing/slapping close in on the opposite bank, would that be mullet or would it be where the current of the river met the inflow of the tide?
