Post Powan

fishing Carron valley the other week, I caught and returned a coarse fish, nearly 2lb, bar of silver.
I thought it was a roach but was told it was a Powan (freshwater herring)
Anyone know of the history of this fish?
it took a buzzer and gave a good scrap for a coarse fish.

Default Powan

Have a look here:

powan

3lb G is the powan expert!

BTW, it's a game fish, the adipose fin being the clue.

Regards,

I have never experienced anything other than a wet sack fight from a powan. In fact they make bream feel like bonefish in comparison......
