I've had a rod break from a hit with a GRHE. (i think) and I have been guilty in the past of what they call "stringing up". My dad has always pulled me up on this one!

Interesting, stringing up is my sin from that list

I did my break one of my Grandpas rods many years ago after ignoring the hold it correctly advice and plugging the tip into the ground. He wasn't impressed..............but then neither was my Mum when I had to ask her to explain some of the words Grandpa had used that day!

Some years ago, my wife jammed my rod in the front door and didn't tell me??

A few weeks later, she drove me fishing to the River Tern and I'd walk back to Market Drayton and fish en route. I set up and first cast, Crack!

I walked back and an hour or so later got through the door and told her what happened, only for her to say, " Oh yeah, I forget to say, I might have hit your rod the other day".

Not the best start to fishing, I have to say.

You do hear stories of people, Stringing up and pulling at the tip. Easy done without thinking though.

With one exception (rod actually exploded, even Sage had no clue what the hell happened but they replaced the rod):

"Road Rage
Car doors, trunk lids and tail gates have all claimed their share of rod casualties, but my latest close call came when I left my rod and reel on top of my car. Luckily, as I drove away, I saw my outfit hit the road out of the corner of my eye. Amazingly, it resulted in only a little “Road Rash” to my reel."

Sent the rod in for repair and call back asking if they could keep it and just send me a replacement. Not a prob on my part save for 'why?' They'd not see that specific rod in for a repair with that kind of 'failure.'

I've always aligned before fitting. Curious then that you don't use a twisting action to release stuck sections.
