Default Some Recent Artwork and design

Recently I've been put the pencil to paper and trying to get some buzz created with St.Croix to get them to start offering t-shirts and hats, promoting their fly fishing products. They offer some great products but don't have any swag to accessorize their following.

So here's what I came up with so far.

Yeah,

Pretty alive! Not 100% on the barbed wire but get the message. Maybe something more wader friendly and/or natural would be the biz? Like a nice bit of bramble?

But I am biased that way . . . .

Thanks!

The barbed wire is the actual logo on the rods themselves. lol. They did a really good job on the finish of these rods! Very excited to give them a toss!

Here's another one from last night. Did it for a friend of mine for his blog.

Jeez, I love my st croix but I can't believe the cr@p names they came up with for those rods, nor the even worse art work.
No axe to grind here, as I am (or was until I saw that!) a fan of the brand. It looks, shall we say, a bit not in keeping with fly fishing.
I mean, 'bank robber' and barbed wire logo? What hick is running their marketing department these days, and does he by any chance bait fish?

Chill out Bri. If you've ever heard Kelly Galloup, the co-designer of the rods, he is quite possibly the furthest you can get from traditionalist fly fisher. He tosses big streamers with kinky names (sex dungeons, butt sumps, butt monkeys) and has a reputation for shaking things up! He catches big fish, is incredibly knowledgeable, and helped design some superb sticks.

St.Croix is an American company who's roots stem from bass and walleye fishing, where there is no traditionalist way of fishing. They host huge tournaments for both species. Just the way it is.

They certainly makes some incredible sticks and if you want to be out in a sport coat, wooden pipe, wicker creel and are after wild trout, then I'd suggest not buying St.Croix, cuz it won't match your outfit Bri. I'd also suggest building a boo rod and cast silk line. Then you'll be "traditionalist".

Me, I like the names, it's not your typical gloss green blank and they're technical rods designed for specific applications. Just depends on what suits your style of fishing.

Yo Nick-babes, wassup dawg...

I know St Croix, I bought it in the US. I also enjoy slinging rubber and spinners for bass and walleye as the next beer fueled muppit.

But, fly fishing is fly fishing - it varies a lot, but it's still fly fishing. Certainly I don't know any fly fishermen who rides a pimped out bass boat and wears a shirt with 'Walmart' etc patches all over it like some sort of frickin mechanic. St Croix certainly knew that too and were well renowned for producing rods with exceptional (and traditional) bling such as the legend ultra elite etc (it's something suitable impressive sounding like that)

Put simply, this ain't about cane rods versus carbon, or being traditionalist. The brand names and their art works sucks so very badly... They've missed their market and seem to have departed from the normal cosmetics and marketing

Bri, I definitely agree and I'm not one to flash logos or be the center of attention on the water. I fish from a float tube and wear flippers...definitely hard to convince people that I'm cool. lol.

When St.Croix released the Bank Robber last year it was meant to raise some eyebrows and to stray away from the norm. They built a rod for a group of fly anglers that like to chuck and duck to large trout. No doubt the dry fly guys would think it's cr@p but it has been a very successful rod for St.Croix. It is up with the Legend Elite series for quality and suits my style of fishing, pounding shorelines (aka bank robbing) and flooded timber in search of big ole kyped browns and tigers.

So you have your opinion and I have mine. I think they're a great series of sticks, and hence why I drew and designed a couple of designs to help create buzz about the series.
