Default what Qualification

Which is the bast qualification to have behind you for tuition and guiding.
Not just for skill levels but for back up and insurances etc.
GAIA/AAPGAI or the Angling development board schemes or any others?
All info and comment most welcome.
Reason saltwater fishing/ guiding (not just fly) fly tying beginners, visitors day fishing packages and some beginners tuition but there are good teachers here now.
Thanks Mike

Do you intend guiding mostly in Cornwall or Ireland? If the latter, then APGAI-Ireland is head and shoulders above the rest

This is an interesting one.Are they part of GAIA who own the title to APGAI?

I only ask as I have never heard of this organisation and mean no disrespect to it but know alot of APGAI Instructors in Ireland and they are part of GAIA and not this organisation as far as Im aware.

I had a look at all the casting exams a while ago. However the assessments seem very limited to me as an outsider. I'm sure the letters AAPGAI or GAIA or EFFA will be useful however.

They all seem to concentrate on lightweight fly rod (max weight 5 or 6), floating line, single lightweight fly cast with acres of space all around. Then they ask you to do all sorts of clever things with this equipment. Even the very hardest assessments assess all the elements with this tackle. The test all sorts of useful things with this gear including chucking your single dry fly 30 metres, switch casting your dry fly 22 metres or switch casting off the wrong shoulder to 18m. Very useful I'm sure for casting demos and the like. Nothing about casting your big clouser on a 7-10 weight sinker with some rocks behind you, you'll have to learn that yourself!

No, APGAI Ireland is a completely separate entity formed some 10 years ago when Irish (North and South) APGAI members discovered that they were not covered by the UK insurance scheme at that time and formed their own group. We have links with other Instructors groups such as AAPGAI and FFF but we are a stand-alone organisation. I understand what your saying about the casting but its not about that these days, that is part of it but also there is;
health and safety, risk assessments and the like.
Insurance, public liabilities and the like.
CRB checks for working with children.
Thats what I'm after. I think as im more guiding.

Yes regarding clousers ,i cast size 3/0 rabbit flies at tarpon last year with a twelve weight and found it rather easy ,maybe because i practice and practice with a five weight doing all types of casts,dont see the difference in casting a five to a ten weight the mechanics are still the same
