Hi big troot

This has been done a few times on here mate and the answer seems to be it is highly contentious.

I am still yet to see evidence that ahs convinced me that an adult trout can see UV light at all and definitely none that convinces me they use it for feeding. As for the other colours they have relativley similar peaks to human eyes with a major peak at chartreuse (500nm I think).

You also have to consider about the penetration of the different colours through water, depending on what is dissolved in the water or suspended in it different wavelengths will penetrate to different depths.

we take lure colors based on how we see them instead of how the fish see them, but we cannot see as many light spectrums as them. fish see the standard light frequencies that we see aswel but also as infra-red and ultraviolet .alot of fish use uva light to find there pray .

I tried learning about this a few years back and researched quite a bit on the internet..............the theories were many but nothing conclusive, it all seemed to be vague enough / speculation etc. What I got out of it for some reason, was that fish see colour best and strongest in the morning, and as the day goes by, they end up seeing in shades of grey i.e. dusk. Can't remember the research or who conducted it, but that theory stuck in my mind for some reason Anybody else come across this ?? Also that red fades to blue / grey at about ten feet ? Divers say their blood (when they get cut) looks blue grey at depths......I think if anybody really knew or could prove it there would only be one accepted school of thought by now ??

thats right 11foot5 as the sun sets, those colors possessing the longest wavelengths starting with red will disappear the quickest. Once the sun rises, blue and green are the first colors a fish will see, with red being last.

Salmon see in monochrome..varying shades of greys ..[ black and white ]
The different combinations and strength of differing colours they see when observing a fly for instance is within their optical range transformed into a grey silhouette.
The colour combinations on some flies / baits being more preferable to the salmon's eye than others..
So I once read...
