Default Welded & braided loops.

Is there any difference in leader turnover with line with welded loops & those with a braided loop?

If not then is purely down to personal preference?

Cheers

Simon.

Welded loops are made out of the fly line itself, braided loops are attached to the fly line and can hinge which will effect turn over.

For what my opinion's worth; it's personal preference. I cut the welded loops off if supplied and replace with Roman Mosers. Less bulky, looks and feels better to me than needle knots; just a confidence thing I suppose.

I have some fly lines with welded loops which work just fine. Others that came with welded loops I cut off and replaced with Roman Moser Minicoms. In my opinion these are the neatest, best braided loops as they are nicely compact and don't add unnecessary bulk.

Poorly attached braided loops can hinge and adversely affect turnover. I've had welded loops that have hinged, so those had to go and be replaced by the Roman Mosers. I have also needle knotted some of my fly lines but have yet to try these.

I think casting style/ technique may impact how your flies are turning over on the cast, so also look at that as well as your hardware.

I usually make a loop out of the line core and only use braided loops on lines with mono cores, I don't really like braided loops at all .
However my new Rio Gold 5 weight line has a very neat welded loop that works fine , I agree that turnover can be affected more by casting than by the loop .

All my lines are Rio LT in #'s 3, 4, & 5, since I only fish rivers my casts are generally rolled out & very rarely overhead casts.

The lines all have welded loops so was just wondering what the concensus was.

I'll put a braided loop on the #4 & see if there's any difference

Cheers

Simon
