Default Barnsfold help

Hi folks. I am a bit of a fly fishing newbie, fished stocks a few times and Barnsfold. I have been to barnsfold 3 times and have had 1 fish that took a buzzer last spring. Tried the place again today and had nothing. Could any of you Barnsfold regulars give me any tips on what flies and depths?.

errm it does depend a lot on the conditions but at this time of year i would be fishing an intermediate line with a couple of mini lures probably cats whiskers, damsel patterns, vivas, montanas or cormorants and use a slow figure of eight retrieve im going up tomorrow myself shame you went today or i could have given you a few pointers

I will be going again on Friday for the full day. I should have mentioned my friend managed 1 on a bloodworm pattern fished under a bung & i also had a pull on a lure. But alas Barnsfold beat me again. I will bag up at this place one day.

Drop in on the Lancsy Lads thread, now moved to Fly Fishing Events and Members Meetings. Most of us fish Barnsfold a good bit.

I have found this fly to be dynamite at Barnsfold;

Flexi White Cat

It is availble in FlysOnline I think, but my connection is really slow so cant find it.

It can be tough fishing (with the weather) but on a good day I always get at least 4 (an im terrible).

The fish there are strong so and so's, one of my favourite places!

Speaking to the locals there, the colors that generally do well - White and Green, and Black and Green.

I tend to start with a 15ft leader, with a flexi cat on the point, and a black / green version about 8ft away from that.

I also tend to start just to right (as you look from the lodge) of that walkway thingie in the right hand lake. Just my preference really, I start there and work right if the wind isn't too hurricaney!

Hope this helps!

(also ask the locals for advice, they often give me free flies to try!)

Phil

Hi Phil

Just looked at a picture of the Flexi Cat on the Flybox site. It's difficult to tell what the hackle and body materials are.Looks a good attractor lure.

May sound like a daft question, probably because it is

What's an attractor lure?

Thanks
