Default Motor Cycles and fishin'

Just watching 'Cafe Racer' on disc shed ch242 and admiring the machines they build (on now 11.30 ). Got me thinking about my early years heading off on my old 500 BSA, rod lashed on the side, basket swinging around, net over my shoulder, turned down wellies and a camo jacket what a sight .

Any of you guys use a bike to get around fishing years ago? I'm being a bit flash mentioning the 500 beeza, first it was a Bantam

Chris.

Yes used to be a big bike rider and have had several over the years, At the minute I still own a Yam XJ900.
Used to be nothing like bike riding back in the 70's, but its a risky business out on the roads these days.
Here is a list of bikes Iv owned over the years and some I wish I still had.
Yamaha FS1E, RD200 RD250lc XJ900
Honda CB400F CX500 CB550
Sukuki 200 GS750 katana
Triumph 750 Bonneville 1pre unit 1 unit
Vellocette LE
Greaves 125 with Villiers engine
Panther 600 single SV
Aerial 1000 square four, had 2 sold then for £650 the pair in 1977 same year I speant 3 1/2 months in city hospital after being knocked off the RD200
BSA B40 ex MOD
Im sure there were others but cant remember right now.
Always wanted a Norton Commando.
Mike

I had a Commando 850. Bought it for 350 quid with a collapsed back wheel. A retired Norton wheelright fixed it for me and off I went. Great bike, the only brit I ever owned that went around corners without a fight .

Two on your list stand out for me, the Suzuki 200, Invader if I rem. A kid in our town had one with racing tank, seat and rear sets...we were in awe The other is the mighty 600 Panther, I love em Used to be an old boy at the factory rode one with a chair the size of a garden shed attached-he trembled all the time . Used to stand at his lathe shaking all day. Surely something to do with that bike

Chris.

I owned a 350cc BSA Beezer when I was eighteen in 1963. It was a reliable rock solid machine.Wish I had it now.

Does a mountain bike with mudguards count?

Yes the Panther was a chair bike for sure, had a decompresser for starting as the compression was sever , sort of leg breaking if you got it wrong.
Used to fire at every lamp post, a right thumper.

I didnt use bikes for fishing but had a few of the ones mentioned.
First Bike Triumph 500 speed twin aged 15 my dad caught me riding it one night I never saw it again
First road bike aged 16 Triumph tiger cub. bsa 125/175 bantams, Royal Enfield continental GT,Suzuki Husler 250 ,Norton commando 750 fast back,Suzuki 200 invader ,Suzuki T500,Triumph Bonnie US spec 750.Suzuki 250 GT ram air Honda 250 super dream.
I once heard tell of a Bailiff on the River Trent Nottingham area, who had a Greeves scrambler some of the fishermen complained it was to noisy so stuffed Brillo pads up the exhaust, much quieter but soon carboned up and then wouldnt start.
