Default Holidaying in LLandysul - stillwaters?

Hi All
Am visiting LLandysul in May and looking to fish some stillwaters while there. I've been having a little look for stillwaters to fish and have come across; Alltrodyn, Rhydlewis and Pantybedw. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of these fisheries and any hints, tips etc? Also, will definately be paying at least one visit to Garnffrwd - i'm really looking forward to this one and it's a reasonable drive. Did consider Felindre - any comments?
thanks, Grey

Hi ghg,

We stopped in LLandysul last year, there are a few coarse lakes nearby where they dont mind you casting a fly. Cheaper than stillwater trout fishing and bigger, hard fighting fish.

Hi GG thanks for the enquiry, I hadn't realised Alltrodyn had reopened but I suggest you try there if you like small stillwaters, it's the only one I've fished more than once. Quite close to Llandysul and in the beautiful setting of the Clettwr Valley.

The other two you mentioned are reputedly good fisheries but as you're up in May why not take the 30 mile drive to Llys Y Fran reservoir which will be at its best at that time of the year. Thoroughly reccommended in terms of setting, facilities and fishing, the drive is superb particularly if you take the Crymych - Mynachclogddu - Rosebush route along the foot of the Preseli hills.

Just treat it as a small fishery GG, usual thing, if fish on top floater and dries, next try buzzers and nymphs. If no movement on top try an intermediate and count down using a small lure and a couple of nymphs. If it takes a long count change to a sinker. If they're right on the bottom - unlikely but possible in May - sinker and lures. Fast sinker and booby or a muddler if all else fails. Black hoppers and buzzers, diawl bachs, hares ears, orange tadpoles orange boobies, dabblers, bibios will see you through.

I'd give Nine Oaks a miss if I were you.

There's a very good and not too well known coarse fishery near Cilgerran called Cwm Gof.

While you're down you really should try the sewin fishing on the Teifi, the Teifi River Guides and Steffan Jones are both very highly rated if you'd like to receive some tuition, give it a go , you might catch the fish of lifetime.

I agree the river Teifi can be superb sewin fishing, however the Upper Teifi can offer superb river brown trout fishing, have a look at the Cymdeithas Pysgota Tregaron Angling Association (highlight and copy this title and put it into google) web site they also manage 3 Brown Trout, lakes, Lllyn Berwyn is a personnal favourite.
There is also Llandysul, and Teifi Trout Angling Associations.
