Default Airflo Forty Plus Lines

Hi

Looking for some advice on whether these lines are a good buy. They seem to offer longer casting distance but from what I have seen online do not seem to wear well, with a tendancy to split. If anyone has experience of using these it would be great to hear what you think.

Thanks

The old ones used to be terrible for splitting, but Airflo seem to have solved that problem and they are fine now.

They will ''allow'' you to cast further.Only if you can utilise the shooting head type charecteristics of the 40+ lines.

I for one love the 40+ fly lines and think that they offer more on some days than a standard line.

Casting distance with the forty plus fly lines is increased, as Jim said, using the Double Haul method is the best way to utilise the head structure. 35+ yard casts become easy once the casting is mastered.

The Forty Plus lines offer a different fishing angle too, as a standard line fully sinks E.G, the full length of a fast glass sinks at 1.5IPS throughout, the fast glass forty plus has a floating running line and the head sinks 1.5IPs, giving a different angle to retrieve your flies.

The old Forty plus lines had a tendency to split at the join as it had one step between the head and running line. When aeralising the head and some running line, the join would hinge and crack over time. This has now been rectified with the new forty plus line which have a continuous join between the head and running line.

Fine now, but the problem is many sellers are still selling the old model.
I have personally seen 4 of them fail at the join between the running line and the sinking line, and all with less than half a day of fishing...

Except for the fact that they fail so easily, they are a smashing line, so i presume the new model is fantastic, if it's similar to the old model, excluding the propensity to fail

cheers
JJ

I prefer the Snowbee X S Extra Distance too, as it has better presentation. You do need to be able to aeralise the long head before shooting, to get the extra distance. Some casters may not manage this, or the bank may prevent aeralising 20m of line. The 40+ is more like a head, and you will need to practice to get the best from it, but it certainly is capable of good distances.

the older 40+ I have was ok in warmer weather but with some memory when the outside temperature is not warm enough to soften the coils, there are much better lines than that, i dont know if the newer model is any better than the old one

As Kieron says the old model had a tendency to split at the join but the new ones are totally sound - there is no join just a transition from running line to head.

Personally I mainly use them for bank fishing as that is where distance can count more and the light running line gets blown about in a boat.

The slow glass is a fabulous line on venues like Elinor, which are shallow and the fish push out with angling pressure.
