Dear God, we call those a 'Yarn Fly,' and use them (sunk) for Steelhead/Salmon fishing. You can make one up for (hook and all) about 3 cents.

Oh well, here we go again.

When is a bung not a bung?

When it has a hook in it.

[Or Redknapp's lawyer says it isn't]

I don't see why it needs a hook in it. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times a fish has actually taken one of my indicators which are made of the same egg yarn. Also, many fisheries limit the number of hooks on a leader - in Farmoor's case to three. Therefore having a hook in an indicator which is going to catch you a fish once every two years is limiting you to two much more productive patterns down the leader instead of three. Just doesn't make sense. Furthermore, try getting one of those through the tip ring if using a long leader and you have a fish on the point fly. Won't go!
