Im planning a 2 day trip to Derbyshire for myself and a friend in April or June.
Im hoping to fish the Wye or Dove.
Can anyone suggest day ticket beats please?

I fished a couple of the peak passport bets last June whilst on holiday. They're not big rivers and the fishing ins pretty challenging ... but then I like that sort of fishing. Lots of scrambling around, careful wading, roll casts, etc.

I lost a big trout on the Manifold at Windy Arbour and there were plenty of trout rising ... I caught a few little ones and spooked plenty more. I didn't get round to trying to beats on the Dove as I only had limited time. When I get a chance, I'm going to fish the peak passport waters again.

I walked along Dovedale and the river was really busy (walkers and fishers) but it is pretty gorgeous.

If you have time pop in to Bakewell and chat to the guy who runs the fly fishing shop in town. He should be able to point you towards some day ticket water.

As well as the peak passport scheme, I know you can get day tickets on the Cressbrook abd Litton Flyfishers water on the Wye at Monsal Dale, and the Isaac Walton Hotel has day tickets on the Dove through Dovedale. Not sure of prices though

Peacock Hotel does tickets for the Haddon Estate water on the Wye, dry fly only (no emergers). Quite pricey but wonderful fishing. Similar at Cressbrook & Litton though you can also fish a nymph there. Both are in the £40-50 bracket.

Dovedale is Leek & District on the Derby bank (no tickets) and Living the Dream FFA on the Staffs bank. About £40 a day from the Isaac Walton Hotel. Have a look at their thread to get an idea. Avoid weekends and bank holidays!

Difficult to choose between these options - fish 'em both!

I'm sure one of the local guys will post some more info.

Regards
Peter

What is your budget for the tickets?

I spent a guided weekend on the Dove with John Tyzack last April based at the I.W.Hotel.

I had a great weekend. JT is the business.

Inspite of low water and bright sunlight I managed to catch plenty of fish.

The main problem was the number of people on walking along the riverside footpaths. Try and go midweek if you can.

I think the hotel does day tickets for about £40

The day ticket water let through the Peacock is absolutely nothing like the stocked section of the C&L day ticket water. I mean REALLY!

Thanks guys, plenty to go on.

Richard,
I was hoping to spend no more than £40 per day.

I think i will heed the advice on avoiding weekends.

Doubt I could afford John Tyzack

PS. I was starting to get a bit sick of the sniping on this forum. You fellas have reminded me what makes it such a wonderful resource.

Cheers again.

Richard was kind enough to recommend the Bakewell to the Peacock beat some time ago. I enjoyed it thoroughly and would recommend it to anyone. Just book in advance at the Peacock by phone.
There are mountains of fish and all sat in shallow, gin clear water. hard enough to make it intraesting but you should catch enough to satisfy the urge.

Thank you again R.
