Default newbie looking for help!

Hi all. I'm steve and although not new to angling i am new to fly fishing.
I am currently in the process of getting myself some gear to give it a go.
I have a rod, reel (with spare spools) line (1 of each, floating, inter and sinking.)
I will be paying a visit to a local fishery soon for advice and help loading my spools with backing and also learn about leaders etc.
What i would like to know is about flies? For instance what to look for when buying? What sort to buy and where to buy.
I will be looking at threads on here and trying to put into place things like what fly works best at what time of day/month/year. Also what the differences are.
Buzzers, boobies and nymphs.
If i were to buy an assortment pack would that be a good way to start?
Do they come barbless too?
Any help will be very much appreciated and i thank you in advance.

hi stevie, being a relative newcomer to the sport myself the biggest piece of advice i can give you is just to go down to your local lake for a walk around and have a chat with the lads fishing there, i can say everyone i have met have helped me greatly, even made a few good friends through it.
dont worry if u cant cast down to the backing of your line, i cant cast even half of mine out! start with a few known fish catching flies like buzzers and damsels and hares ears.
i ve had my blank days, but thoroughly enjoyed the whole fly fishing experience.
tight lines bud and welcome to a very addictive way to waste all your spare cash

Whilst you're waiting to chat to the locals at Toft - have a rummage through this site. Lots of info. in it.

The Sexyloops Contents Page

And no - it's not a porn site

I can put you together a simple fly collection. It will include the basic flies that you should have for fishing the waters you fish. You can grow confidence in these flies and then start trying other patterns as you go through the sport. Will send you a PM
