Default Any info on Alderneuk

Me and a few friends are planning a trip to Alderneuk next Sunday and am just wondering if the regulars could give me some help on a few things.

1 What flies are best for this time of year?
2 Is there any hotspots worth checking out?
3 What depth is the water at it's deepest point?
4 Do you get catch and release after your kill ticket?
5 Can you get a catch and release ticket and not kill any?
6 Most importantly is the food good?

Cheers in advance for any help. First time going to this water

Cheers Alex

Hi mate... I'm a very regular... The flies can vary on an almost daily basis... Buzzers, diawl Bach, cormorants... Small sizes... Black lures... White lures... Intermediate line slowly twitched back has worked a lot for me... That's what got the 11lb 08oz tiger for me...

No real hot spots to speak of... The point is my favourite spot, as you can change your cast if the wind gets up...

Depth is about 6ft at the inlet end ranging to about 12-14 ft at the far end from the lodge...

You certainly get to catch and release after your kill fish...

Food is basic bacon egg sausage baps but very very tasty... If you need any more advice and info let me know...

Stevie

I started out with a fast glass, with a hothead lime green minky blob. Then changed to a floating line. Black rabbits work well, also small stuff. The water can be crystal clear & easy to spot cruising fish.
Checkout the Alderneuk report Alex.

Hi Alex
The lads have just about got it covered there! The water clarity is good right now, and this usually brings wee stuff into it's own, buzzers, black or olive, okey dokeys, diawls and nymphs all scoring, even been a few of the top!! no real hotspots as such, point always good for water coverage, our regulars will be more than helpful info-wise, and we will always pass on what's what, but as Stevie say's it changes on a daily, sometimes hourly bases, cold front coming in this week, water will get even clearer, top rod yesterday was 8, bloodworm top fly, pulled, best fish out a stunning 12lb bow, on a black rabbit. hope this all helps, keep an eye on the Alderneuk thread on stillwater updates. thanks again, Wullie C. average size last wee while between 3lb 8oz and 4lb.

hi bigal
I had a 12.5pound slunking rainbow yesterday on a black rabbit, you can buy various colours in the lodge.
Its an awesome place.
Its all about quality fish, great atmoshere, great fishers and most importantly, great owners who are passionate about fishing.

Oh, the bacon rolls are to die for, and the cake made by the lovely Kerry

Let us all know how you get on
peace
rusty

p.s. if Drift the local sheepdog comes and stands next to you while you're fishing, it means you are just about to catch a fish, no joke!
