Hiyah mate, my brother's been there a bit recently, I'll get him to get in touch. Meanwhile check the video out on his blog, that'll give you an idea of what its like when the weather is rough

I haven't been for a couple of years but my advice is that depth is the key at Helwith. It's much deeper than your average trout lake and the fish move up and down in the water column depending on conditions. Boobies aren't allowed but an unweighted lure on a Di5 or even a Di7 sweep is unlikely to snag the bottom if you fish the steep drop offs. Lures or Buzzers were what was catching. I seem to remember fluoro-green buzzers working for my fishing partner on the day. Black or Orange Zonkers and Minkies have worked for me.

Take the right money, like Barnsfold they operate a 'cash-in-the-envelope' system. And wrap up warm!

Tight lines.

I've been twice now, it is a friends regular. It's probably my favourite stillwater. The water is crystal clear, you can see the fish as you bring them in, which is very exciting.

The regulars seem to fish up past the cabin (walk past the cabin and up the hill a little then back down) and cast off that ledge towards the stock net.

I have done ok there when I have been but the weather has been grim both times. In the catch book cats whisker seems to do well there.

The place is deep but is quite shallow from the cabin round to the right, wouldnt bother with an intermediate in this area because of the weeds.

It's also very very slippy in places so just be aware of that when moving around, my mate slipped and broke his rod last time we were there

Hope this helps! Let me know how you get on
