Yes, it could well work wonders preventing frozen rod rings and aiding shootability. I'd also be interested to know how much it costs or even if it's potentially damaging. Business lunch red wine spillages could be a thing of the past but I'm not so sure about bed pans. A balancing act or booty dance wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. Of course, it depends where you spray it. Interesting though.

Clever stuff. Will be pricey though, at first. Interesting they have already sold licenses to other manufacturers.

Jeez that stuff if it works and stays working on less stable surfaces could revolutionize many industries.
I could think of hundreds just in construction alone.

My postgraduate was working with these superhydrophobic surfaces. The big problem with these surfaces is durability.
The superhydrophobic effect is created by the combination of nano-structured roughness and a low surface energy. Rub your finger across one of these surfaces and the sebaceous oils will start to clog the nano-textured surface. This is inherent to all kinds of superhydrophobic surfaces.

Maybe I'm just not that impressed after 4 years of research, but I tend to be negative towards these kinds of applications for these coatings. In my view, the only real use is in microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip applications.
In saying that, they would be great for dry fly fishing as the current products need to be reapplied regularly anyway.

Research groups behind these coatings bring in huge amounts of money because of the potential applications, and they behave in such a cool way.
