Default Classic books, your favourite?

I've recently started reading classic fly fishing books. At the mo I'm half way through 'Fly Fishing-Sir Edward Grey'. Also at the same time 'The Practical Angler W.C. Stewart'. I have a couple more waiting to be read-Skues Minor Tactics and Dewars Dry Fly.

I find the older books a much more interesting and imformative read. Interestingly nothing much has changed generally. Sure we have modern equipment and new flies but the plot remains roughly the same.

Anyway, it seems I'm hooked so to speak and would like to hear about your favorite read and any recommendations. Did any stand out for you? If so why?

Thanks in anticipation...

Chris.

Must read "Where The Bright Waters Meet" H Pluncket Green. Just a nice book.
Another good book that I use more for reference "Lake Flies and Their Imitation" CF Walker. I've had a lot of success with his hatching sedge pattern.

Funny enough "Where The Bright Waters Meet" is being posted to me today. I look forward to getting stuck in. Thanks.

Isn't "Where the Bright Waters Meet" available free to download from this site?

You may of course prefer the real thing.

All the old books you want and more to download and read here.

Internet Archive Search: fly fishing

To convert them for reading on one of the book readers use this.

calibre - Download for Windows

It also has a reader that you can use.

Too many to choose from! Ransome's 'Rod and line', Pritt and Walbran's books on grayling are both fantastic. I inherited a battered copy of Ray Bergman's 'Trout' which is really enjoyable.

Not so old but definately a classic - Ian Niall's 'Trout from the Hills' is one of the most evocative books I've read. Maybe it helps to have fished welsh mountain lakes in the wind rain and mist to visualise what he's describing but the man was an extraordinary writer - his 'fresh woods' is near poetry.

Thanks for your comments so far chaps. Thanks also to those of you who posted links to books to download. I'm afraid downloading to read is not for me. I like a book in my hand-old fashioned I know .

Anyway I can't take the computer to the loo nor can I hump it upstairs to the bath .

I suppose it's possible to print them off? Well if I had a printer.... I'll remain in the dark ages a little longer, thanks anyway for the idea

Chris.

You must read "The Way of a Trout with a Fly" by G. E. M. Skues (pronounced "skewez"). The trick is to imagine yourself there when he is describing experiences under "Episodical".
